The Untold History

A loud noise broke the silence somewhere close to the entrance of the room. At first Nero, already sitting at the table, three books left of him and his sword to his right, an open book in front of him and his trench coat hanging on the chair paid it no mind. The noise got closer and closer, until a very serious looking girl appeared from around the corner. He took a quick glimpse at her and then returned to the book. He recognized her. She was the first one to do the evaluation, The Blood Wolf. He could almost feel her unease.

She was looking for a book, which she found rather quickly. A book that Nero passed earlier and didn’t take because it was not relevant for his information. A vibration shook the table as Lycan smacked a book on the table and started reading it. Nero payed it no mind. The noise echoed around the library and shortly after a dead silence appeared again. Finished with the book he was reading, Nero put it aside and took another one of the pile he had next to him.

Another vibration was felt as Lycan slammed the book closed. She was shouting in frustration. She seemed troubled about something. Also she was talking to someone, most likely her supporter. Suddenly she kicked the book, sending it flying at Nero’s head. A one moment glance at it and he caught it right in front of his face, and put it on top of the first book he finished reading. I’ll put that back later.

During that, Lycan seemed to calm down and sat back again. She was probably processing the information she just received. Now Nero stopped reading and looked at her. She seemed somewhat confused. “You need help with anything?”

Lycan clearly wanted some answers from her supporter, and clearly she wasn’t getting them. She asked Nero about the 4th row and if anyone was there. “I’ve only been here hardly an hour, and I didn’t see anyone.” He then opened the book that was thrown at him earlier and skimmed through the pages. At some point he stopped looking at the ripped page. “I see” mumbled he to himself.

“You’re looking for a certain witch…” said Nero while standing up. He walked first to the angry librarian and told her that everything was alright. Then he walked to the shelve and put that book back to where it was taken from and then looked Lycan straight in the eye with his blank, but piercing stare “Am I right?”

He heard it. For only an instant Nero face changed, but then went back to his normal. “One-armed witch you say…that’s interesting.” Nero walked further into the section. He was looking for it, the book he saw earlier. One which contained the history of different witch clans. He read thoroughly through it and didn’t find anything he needed. But what this girl mentioned was also mentioned somewhat in that book.

Lycan was looking at him in a bit of confusion. She seemed to suspect Nero in knowing something, so she started following him. Where did I leave it, where did I leave it…Nero remembered clearly the mention of a witch who only had one arm somewhere in that book. And he finally found it. It was one of the newer books. However, a blue class bumped into him with a nosy attitude. “Oh, I need that…” Nero looked the kid straight in the eyes. This stare was so different, so intimidating, as if it had a murderous intent of a thousand years. The kid stood there for a while and then an away in fear. Nero started flipping through the pages Where is it, where is it…

Ignoring Lycan’s threat Nero continued flipping through the book. It was here somewhere, I remember it was…he started slowly walking back to the table, Lycan watching his every move. She started walking to the table as well. For a few minutes there was silence. “There it is.” Nero stopped at about four fifth through the book “One year ago there was an incident concerning a well appreciated clan of witches. There were no witnesses but only a rumor that the clan was destroyed in one night. The next morning the only thing found were mangled and mutilated bodies. Out of all of them only one survived long enough to give the WH a clue of who the suspect could be. The survivor blurted something out and died. The only thing the WH could make out was “A witch with one arm”. Several more similar incidents happened in the next few weeks, but not on a scale as big. The suspect is still believed to be that same One Armed Witch.” Nero closes the book and puts it on the table. “Seems like we are trying to achieve similar goals.”
“Well what are you trying to achieve”
“The reason I came here was because it was the biggest information center around. What I’m looking for is a history of a certain clan of witches.” Nero sat down and opened another book “But so far I’ve seen no mention of them, not even a reference”. He could feel Lycan’s gaze at him. There was another moment of tense silence. Lycan didn’t seem angry now, but interested. The silence was finally broken “Ever heard of the supporterless witches?”

“There was a clan of witches that lived mostly in the northern highlands. They were known for their power while having no supporters. Some were on the same level as White Class Witch Hunters. But about a year ago, maybe a little more, most of them were exterminated. I suspect that it was your One Armed Witch.” They were opposite of each other now. ”But here is the problem: its almost as if no one acknowledges their existence. Almost as if people deny them, making it sound like a stupid tale. But its true, I know they existed. I know at least one of them and let me tell you this…” he closed the book and looked Lycan straight in the eye with that same piercing stare “she alone took out 10 Black Class Witch Hunters and had no problem doing it.”

He put the book aside and opened the last one “Which is why through my information I might help you satisfy your hunger for revenge, while your information can help me meet that woma…” a dark aura fell upon both of them. A dark blue energy field blocked off both ways out of the section. For a while nothing was happening. Then through it walked in a figure and after it a few more. They were the grey class that were in the library earlier. But something was different about them. Their eyes were glowing red and they gave off quite a killing intent. Nero was blankly looking at the first one for a brief moment before it dashed at him, making a descending punch. The trench coat was in the air, the chair was in pieces and there was quite a dent on the floor. But Nero was on the table, and his sheathed sword in his hand. In the next moment he was by the shelves in front of him, while his attacker’s head was separated from the body and cut in half. More possessed Grey Class showed up. Nero caught the coat and put in on. The beheaded body collapsed.

Lycan seemed to be enjoying the disembarkment of the possessed grey class. That could be seen by the spectacular methods she used. Having fun huh? Thought Nero as a grey class next to him collapsed into three pieces.

Two more ran at him but in that moment he vanished into a blur and appeared behind them[Devil's Trick], their heads flying off. The strange thing to see was that his sword was still sheathed. It was hard to tell when he would draw it and slash with it, because of how fast the action was. Another grey class attacked him from the air, only to get carved up with a few quick slashes and collapse into a bleeding mass.

That was it though. Lycan also seemed done on her end. It seemed that these were the only enemies on this floor. Then the bodies started disintegrating, every part of it, from clothes to blood. Must be the effect of the possession. Nero drew his sword “Hold on to this for me” he threw the scabbard to Lycan. Then he came up to the nearest barrier, grabbed his sword with both his hands and raised it above his head. He started gathering mana into both his arms and the sword. “HAAAA-AAAAAA!!!” he swung against the barrier with a mighty blow. A tremendous force made a small wind rise up with in the sealed space, knocked over the table and a few books, but the Barrier did not budge an inch.

“Tch” no change in expression Nero backed off “I’ll need that back” Nero held out his hand toward Lycan. The blood from the impact against the barrier could be seen. Getting his scabbard back he swung his sword onto the set of shelves in front of him. After he sheathed it, that whole part fell inward, where the next section could be seen. Didn’t think of this did ya? He was in the “doorway” he just made and called to Lycan “Lets Go”

“Gee, thanks” Nero slashed the remaining five to pieces. That’s what I call plain crazy thought Nero. Then he looked up “Oh dear”.

At the height of 5 meters hovered the librarian girl that was trying to get Lycan to quiet down earlier. Her eyes were glowing red, just like all the grey class they killed. He expected her to make a dash at him, but she didn’t move. She started opening her mouth. Her cheeks ripped open, blood splashing out. Her mouth was open unnaturally wide, and only then Nero figured out what she was planning. “Scatter!”

A beam of energy blasted out of the possessed librarian’s mouth. Both Nero and Lycan managed to avoid it. When it hit the shelve that was on the ground, a big explosion tore it to burning bits and pieces. She then, with no hesitation flew towards Lycan, but got slashed up by Nero half way. Another dark aura fell upon them “Not this again” They started running toward the already forming barrier Shit, won’t make it. Then he took Lycan and threw her in the direction of the barrier. She got out of the section as the barrier was almost closed. A black blur got through the opening as it closed and Nero caught Lycan [Devil’s Trick]. They were in the midway between all sections. Ahead of them was the door which lead to the main Library hall.

They ran toward it, mercilessly slashing, carving, tearing and ripping up anyone who got in their way, leaving disintegrating corpses behind them. As they neared the door, they discovered that it was also blocked by the barrier. “Damn it” Nero slashed it several times but it was useless. He then came up to a wall next to it, gathered mana into his leg and kicked the wall, forming a way Can’t believe you made the same mistake twice.

They were in the main hall. They neared the edge of the floor “I don’t suppose you can fly”. More possessed grey classes and librarians neared. Without waiting for the answer, Nero grabbed Lycan around her waist and jumped. It was a free fall. They were falling down what seemed like a 40 story building. During the fall, Nero was gathering mana into his sheathed sword. They were almost at the end of their free fall. As ground neared, Nero turned and smashed it with his sword [Ebon Impact]. The force was enough to project them somewhat up, letting them land safely. A tremendous shockwave smashed the floor under them and knocked a few of the gigantic book shelves over. It also threw down a man who was fending off some of the possessed enemies. A quick glance and Nero and Lycan obliterated his adversaries in one fell swoop.

“Right, gotcha Lady, I’ll keep that in mind” there was a small streak of blood coming down from under his hair on his right side, just in front of the ear. He then looked around. The floor was completely destroyed and did not resemble any kind of flat surface after the shock wave. There were quite a few smashed and collapsed book shelves. A man rose up, wearing armor gauntlets and grieves. Nero was ready to attack him, but then noticed that this guy wasn’t possessed. Good, this will make things somewhat easier. Another wave of the possessed was heard. “Incoming, get ready.”

Lycan ran off to mangle up more grey class. Nero then looked at the outraged Aryeh “Don’t get the wrong idea, knight. They are already dead.” He then vanished and appeared in between 5 of the grey class, as they each collapsed in halves. They seemed to have adapted to the ruble that used to be the floor though, their moves were as dangerous as if they were on flat ground. Tch there’s no end to them Nero pierced one through the heart and sent him flying into the other four, knocking them back. Then he turned to discover that he was looking down at a grey class that was flying for his legs full speed aiming to tackle him and possibly even rip his legs off. Then he suddenly stopped as a huge amount of blood gushed out his back. A bloody, clawed hand was coming out of this. “Thanks” Nero quickly returned the favor by slashing up the three grey class and 1 librarian who were in the air around Lycan. She’s hopeless, but in this situation, she better stay this way.

“Hey Lady, we better find an exit out of here otherwi….” A palm smashed him in the left cheek. A grey class he failed to notice. The hit was so powerful that it sent Nero flying at quite a high speed. He flew past Aryeh and smashed into an already destroyed shelve, creating a dust cloud and could not be seen behind it.
